northern angel she's so fine
The band are still beavering away in the studio writing and recording songs for their debut l.p., which does seem to be taking an age to finish but we are assured it will be worth the wait. During a break from recording the l.p. the band had chance to record a cover of the Liberty Ship song "Northern Angel" for a forthcoming compilation on Matinée to celebrate the labels 50th year in the business,no not really it's for the labels' 50th release. All the bands on the label have been asked to do covers of each others songs and seeing as Kosmonaut didn't think anyone would cover any of their songs and the Liberty Ship didn't think anyone would do one of their songs, they struck up a deal to do each others.

So what can you expect? Well the Liberty Ship have done a cover of "Desert Song" in the style of a synth pop tune from the 80's, apparently no hardware post 1983 was used in the recording of the song. Kosmonaut have done Northern Angel in a big beat style and apparently no software pre 2002 was used during the recording of it. The song also features on backing vocals the debut dulcet tones of drummer Richard Pattinson who has got his own drum school so you fancy learning to play the drums get in touch.

I know where Syd Barrett lives
A new Canadian label set up by Wally Salem called the Beautiful Music have asked the band to appear on their tribute CD to the Television Personalities , they haven't agreed on what song to do yet, or how the hell they are going to fit in the recording of another song whilst working non-stop on the l.p, but I'm sure they will. . For more information about what other bands are going to be on it and what songs they'll be doing have a look at the labels site

Desert Song Single Reviews
The single has attracted more reviews well one review and a couple of comments the first is from www.erasingclouds.com.....
Kosmonaut kick off their debut US release, a two-song 7", by taking you on a leisurely, relaxed drive out into the desert. The soundtrack to this drive is gently rising waves of synth behind a melodic guitar ballad about holding on to something in life. The B-side (titled "Bee Song," of course) throws some subtle electronic beats and an almost ferocious electric guitar into the mix, while offering an equally calming pop song about regret. Melancholy often goes down best with superbly crafted melodies and harmonies; these two songs are more proof of that.
Then there is from www.tangents.co.uk these few words.....
"More Matinée singles to track down would be the recent releases by Kosmonaut and The Liberty Ship. Kosmonaut offer us the delicious 'Desert Song' and 'Bee Song', both of which glint like silver strings in the Mojave.
The last one comes from the best place in the UK to order all your indie stuff, check it out for all those hard to find releases from all over the world
Melody Bar.....
Rather lovely guitar pop with a touch of melancholy and a big heart, reminiscent of Aztec Camera.
The bands own mailing list CD-R of the live version of never realised (jonathan's song) has also recieved a review in TastyZine...
Ahh, that’s better. Kosmonaut give a one track, self-released thingy. And it’s live too, from a venue in Byker!! Wow!
‘Never Realised’ shows Kosmonaut’s New Order influences off to the max, and comes on like something off Low Life, which is all very great indeed, if you ask me. One looks forward to some more, better produced Kosmonaut stuff in the future, but for now, this’ll do.
Alaskan Compilation CD
